GL3 Cambridge, MD
May 12 – May 16
GL3 44.5 miles / Total 157.5 miles
We traveled from Solomons Island, MD to Cambridge, MD on the morning of May 12 with the primary purpose of getting an engine fire suppression component installed at a local marine electronics company. The winds and waves were particularly calm as we traveled north across the Chesapeake Bay and east down the Choptank river. The Cambridge waterfront is highlighted by the Choptank River Lighthouse, a replica of historic Maryland lighthouses, and stands at the intersection of the Choptank River and Cambridge Creek that would be our home for the next four days.
Cambridge is a small port town with a burgeoning main street populated with restaurants, art galleries, and small shops. We particular enjoyed the “Black Water Bakery” that serves breakfast and lunch with in-house baked goods and the “RAR Brewery” that brews and serves a wide range of dark beers on tap.

We were fortunate to host our first loop guests, Dan and Elizabeth, who met us at the marina and captured our arrival in photos and video. Despite evidence to the contrary, the videos fail to capture the finesse and artistry that were on display in the multiple attempts at docking in strong winds, without a bow thruster….and uphill….both ways.
Cambridge provided a great opportunity to complete boat upgrades, stock up on provisions, and do some light shopping. Ginger, our resident dog seadog, also found time to get outfitted in new foul weather gear. The merging of function and fashion…fabulous!

We departed Cambridge on the morning of May 16 enroute to Annapolis, MD.
